Lviv doctors repaired the hand of bronze world champion Rostislav Hertsyk

The bronze medalist of the World Fencing Championship, Rostyslav Hertsyk, injured his limb in July when he represented Ukraine at international competitions in Egypt.

During the duel, the opponent hit the arm of the Ukrainian athlete. The blow caused a fracture of the metacarpal bone of the right hand.

Egyptian doctors provided Rostyslav with first aid, and he decided to be treated in Ukraine – at St. Luke’s Hospital of the First Medical Association of Lviv.

With such an injury, traumatologists usually apply a cast. However, it would be a disaster for Rostislav, because then he would be able to take the rapier in his hands, at best, in half a year. Therefore, surgeon Taras Khoma and orthopedic traumatologist Yuriy Senyuk resorted to surgery. They aligned the bone fragments and fixed them stably with titanium screws and plates.

In just three weeks, the athlete will be able to do what he loves.
