On Saturday, 30 November, Lviv will say goodbye to soldiers Ihor Bednarchuk, Serhiy Zubenko and Stefan Yurkevych, who defended Ukraine from Russian invaders.
Lviv City Hall calls on residents and visitors to join the city’s farewell ceremony and refrain from entertainment and celebrations during this time.
The funeral ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul. Afterwards, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a citywide farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square.
The defenders will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.
Biographical information about the defenders
Ihor Bednarchuk (26.07.1976-27.07.2024) was a resident of Lviv.
He studied at Lyceum №75 named after Lesia Ukrainka of the Lviv City Council. He received his vocational education in Lviv. After completing his studies, he served in the military in Poltava region.
He worked in the insurance industry.
With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he defended the state from the Russian invaders. He performed combat missions in the eastern part of the frontline in the 63rd separate mechanised brigade of the 11th Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Ihor Bednarchuk is survived by his sister and her husband, five nephews and an adopted son.
Serhii Zubenko (05.12.1974-21.06.2023) was born in the city of Nikopol, Dnipro region.
He studied at the Nikopol Gymnasium No. 10 of the Nikopol City Council. He graduated from the Nikopol Professional College of Dnipro State Agrarian and Economic University.
After graduation, he served in the military as a military dog handler in the ranks of the border guards in the Lviv region.
He worked at Nikopol Ferroalloy Plant for 23 years. He was fond of music, travelling and electronics. According to his family, he was a devoted family man who adored his wife and daughter.
From the first months of the full-scale invasion, he stood up to defend his homeland from the invaders. He defended the state on the eastern frontline in the ranks of the 53rd separate mechanised brigade named after Prince Volodymyr Monomakh of the operational command “East” of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Serhii Zubenko is survived by his wife and daughter.
Stefan Yurkevych (20.12.1989-25.11.2024) was a resident of Lviv.
He studied at Lyceum No. 81 named after Petro Sahaidachnyi of the Lviv City Council. He graduated from the Lviv Vocational College of the Lviv National University of Environmental Management and then from Lviv Polytechnic National University.
After graduation, he worked first in the transport sector and then at Lviv Vodokanal, a municipal utility company. In his spare time, he was fond of fishing and cooking. According to his family, he was an extremely practical and tidy person.
With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, despite his lack of combat experience, he defended the state against the invaders as part of the 2nd separate Galician Brigade of the Western Operational and Territorial Association of the National Guard of Ukraine.
Stefan Yurkevych is survived by his parents, two brothers, two nephews, three nieces and godchildren.
