Lviv region took third place in the national annual ranking of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine. Lviv region received 13854 points. The first place was taken by the capital with a score of 20601, and the second – by Kharkiv region, which scored 14953 points.
“Lviv region is an undisputed leader in the development of such sports as water polo, handball, track cycling, luge, wrestling, archery, chess, cheerleading, Kyokushinkai karate, kickboxing, and hopak hand-to-hand combat. We can clearly see the correlation between the sports we invest in and the ones that come out on top in the rankings,” said Roman Khimyak, head of the Youth and Sports Department of the Lviv Regional Administration.
According to him, archery has long been among the priority sports. The department supports various competitions, training camps, and takes steps to ensure that archers are provided with the best equipment.
Roman Khimyak also drew attention to kayaking and canoeing. He spoke about the provision of new boats for athletes, the arrangement of a convenient training base for students of the Specialized Sports School of the Olympic Reserve Veslyaryk, and the renovation of the rowing center, in particular for the National Team at the Kyiv ENT School of Higher Sportsmanship.
