A samovar made in the late nineteenth century was found yesterday by border guards of the 7th Carpathian Border Guard Detachment together with Lviv Customs officers at the Rava-Ruska checkpoint.
During the inspection of a bus en route to Riga, the border and customs inspection group found an ancient samovar that may be of cultural and historical value. It belonged to a bus passenger, a 53-year-old citizen of the Republic of Latvia.
The man placed the samovar in a black bag and, according to him, was carrying it for further sale in his homeland.
Customs officers seized the find. Whether it is of cultural and historical value will be determined by an expert examination.
