Myroslav Babskyi, a member of the OUN, a corporal of the light artillery, a hero of the Ukrainian division “Halychyna”, died today, just three months short of the centenary anniversary.
The sad news was reported in the Sokal city council.
He was born on April 8, 1923 in the city of Sokal in a family of Ukrainian patriots. He studied at the Sokal gymnasium, and then at the gymnasium established by Metropolitan Andrei Sheptytskyi. As a twenty-year-old young man, he followed the call of elders from the OUN to join the ranks of the German army, which was less hostile to his homeland. The training of divisional officers took place in Munich in 1943, where he received the rank of officer. He was a participant in the legendary battle near Brody.
“After all, the hand of the Kremlin did not sleep even then, splitting Ukrainian nationalists in various ways. Along with this, I am proud of my children and grandchildren,” Myroslav Babsky emphasized during his 95th anniversary. He said that he did not betray the interests of the Ukrainian state, the memory of his heroic parents and grandfathers!
Our sincere condolences to the family on the death of Myroslav Babsky. Eternal memory!
