On July 22 and 23 at 7:00 p.m., the Lviv Organ Hall invites you to attend exclusive concerts by virtuoso Vidas Pinkevichus from Vilnius. With the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, the organist was one of the first among foreign musicians to publicly support the Ukrainian people and continues to do so in his concert activities around the world.
Vidas Pinkevichus is a Lithuanian organist, teacher and composer. He is a doctor at Vilnius University and an organist at St. John’s Church, where he plays the largest organ in Lithuania. As a composer, Vidas Pinkevichus is known for his numerous organ arrangements, translations and original compositions. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he and his wife, organist Oshra Motuzayte-Pinkevichene, have been supporting Ukraine in the cultural and information space, in particular, making public appeals to help Ukraine in the countries of Western Europe and the United States. In addition, Vidas Pinkevichus dedicated several of his own works to our country and Ukrainian organists.
At the end of July, Lithuanian organist Vidas Pinkevichus will come to Ukraine for the first time with two concerts to express his support and solidarity with Ukrainians.
“The reason I am coming to Lviv is simple: it is very important to support Ukraine in times of war. We musicians, organists have no better tool to spread the word than to play music live or using social media. It is a great honor and responsibility for me to play concerts in Ukraine. In this way, I can show my practical support for Ukraine not only from a safe distance, but also by coming to a country where people suffer from war every day,” says the musician.
The concert program is powerful and inspiring. In particular, in the Organ Hall, visitors will hear his variations on the National Anthem of Ukraine, as well as Mykola Lysenko’s “Prayer for Ukraine” alongside works by other European composers.
The concerts will be held with the support of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Lithuania in Lviv.
In the event of an air alert, the concert will be interrupted, and guests will be asked to move to a safe place.
