Representatives of UNICEF Ukraine inspected the modern children’s space of the Drohobych branch library

The city’s libraries have long ceased to be traditional spaces for reading; they are successfully implementing a number of creative projects and expanding their range of activities to attract an even wider range of users.

For example, two libraries in Drohobych have successfully launched a modern space for children called Biblionyanya.

The last one was opened in Drohobych Library Branch No. 1 on Hrushevskoho Street last fall.

With the assistance of UNICEF Ukraine, a bright space for children was created here, where they can enjoy exciting workshops, poetry readings, develop their creativity and get inspired by books.

To equip the renovated space, the International Foundation donated technical equipment worth UAH 85 thousand, including a projector, speaker, screen, tablet, laptop, printer and stationery.

The city fulfilled the agreement and prepared the library premises for the “Biblionyanya” – repaired and renovated the restroom.

The new head of the UNICEF office in Ukraine, Munir Mammadzade, visited Drohobych this week to see how the modern space in the library functions. The meeting was also attended by Drohobych Mayor Taras Kuchma, Deputy for Humanitarian and Social Relations Yuriy Kushlyk, Head of the Department of Culture and Tourism Development of the City Council Volodymyr Khanas, Head of the Education Department Roman Hrytsai, and Head of the City Library System Marta Andrusyk.

Natalia Danchivska, Director of Library Branch No. 1, told the guests about the main areas of the Bibilonyanya project, how they teach children through games, active leisure, and hold workshops and readings for preschoolers and primary school students.

In turn, the city’s leadership asked the International Foundation to assist in the implementation of a similar project in Stebnyk, as there are also many children there who would like to see a modernized children’s space in the local library.

Representatives of UNICEF Ukraine were satisfied with everything they saw and concluded that they would continue to implement this necessary idea.
