The Lyudkevich Fest 2023 classical music festival starts on Friday: the program

5 evenings, 5 unique concerts, 8 performers, one stage of the Lviv Organ Hall. On January 20-25, the traditional Lyudkevich Fest 2023 will be held in the Lviv Organ Hall. This year’s festival is dedicated to the birthday of the great Ukrainian composer Stanislav Lyudkevich – January 24 marks his 144th anniversary.

Despite the difficult time of the war between Russia and Ukraine, the team of the Lviv Organ Hall decided not to interrupt the traditions of the festival, founded in 2017 by the music agency Collegium Management. Lyudkevich Fest 2023 will reveal all sides of the artist’s work, including instrumental, choral and symphonic music. On different days, guests can expect unique concert programs, different performing groups and interesting interpretations of works by Lyudkevich and other famous Ukrainian composers.

On January 20, the concert “Solos by Lyudkevich” will open the festival with the performance of the soprano opera singer Sofia Solova and the performance of the pianist Yulia Makivnychuk. The first solo songs, as well as piano miniatures, were created by the composer at the age of 14. Each of these works has its own story. Hear how their performers live this evening.

The evening of the next day, January 21, will be remembered by listeners with another concert of vocal music. Small masterpieces of Ukrainian composers performed by soprano Svitlana Razina and pianist Iryna Kirchanova. In the concert, you will be able to hear songs to the words of Ukrainian poets and author’s arrangements of folk songs.

On January 22, the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Luhansk Regional Philharmonic under the baton of Ivan Ostapovich will be on the stage of the Organ Hall. Two world premieres in one evening, and also from the works of Ukrainian classics – this is possible only during the Lyudkevich Fest 2023.

Stanislav Lyudkevich was born on January 24, 1879. On the same day, 144 years later, a solemn concert dedicated to the composer will be held in the Lviv Organ Hall. The Lviv Municipal Choir “Homin” invites you to remember the life and work of the genius of classical music of Ukraine by performing his songs.

This year’s festival will be closed by the piano duo of Natalia Zubko and Petr Dovhan Dovhan & Zubko Piano duo. Rarely performed works by Stanislav Lyudkevich composed for piano ensemble. Lyricism, heroism, humor of Stanislav Ludkevich’s works in a brilliant performance by a piano duet.

Also, the gallery of the organ hall as part of the Lyudkevich Fest 2023 festival will be replenished with a new exhibition of portraits of Ukrainian composers. It will be a synthesis of painting, graphics, digital design, music and literature. This exhibition will unfold stories from the life and work of leading Ukrainian composers, as well as authors whose names have been undeservedly forgotten or deliberately erased from our memory. Opening of the exhibition – January 25 at 18:00. Entrance to the gallery is free.
