Lviv Resident Sentenced for Illegal Border Crossing Facilitation

Prosecutors of the Sambir District Prosecutor’s Office have proven the guilt of a 66-year-old man in the case of illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine, according to Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He was sentenced to nine years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The investigation established that during martial law, the Lviv resident organized a scheme for the illegal border crossing of men subject to military service. According to his plan, groups of four people were to cross the border outside official checkpoints. The accused conducted instructions and escorted ‘clients’ to Poland, but they were detained by the border service.

The cost of services ranged from $2,000 to $9,000 per person. In the course of the criminal proceedings, over 500,000 UAH bail was confiscated for the state’s benefit due to the accused’s failure to fulfill obligations.

Until the verdict becomes legally binding, he will remain in custody. The investigation was conducted by investigators of the Sambir district police department with the support of the Carpathian Border Guard Unit and the migration police of the Lviv region.
