Operational officers of the Lviv Border Guard Detachment jointly with detectives of the SBU Office in Lviv region exposed 3 charitable foundations that ensured the importation of more than 700 cars into Ukraine without paying customs duties.
The investigation established that the organisers of the scheme, citizens of Ukraine and Moldova, set up a channel for importing used cars into Ukraine under the guise of humanitarian aid, allegedly for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Subsequently, the cars were sold for cash in Ukraine.
During the searches, 17 vehicles, documents, computer equipment, mobile terminals, and draft records were seized.
The full range of people involved in the scheme is currently being identified. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Procedural supervision is carried out by prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
Operational support in the criminal proceedings is provided by officers of the SBU Regional Office in Lviv region, the 7th Carpathian Border Guard Detachment and the Eastern Regional Directorate of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. Employees of the State Enterprise “Information and Computing Centre of the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine” are providing assistance.
