In Lviv, the police detained an intruder suspected of setting fire to an apartment door

No one was injured in the fire. The detainee is liable to imprisonment for a term of three to ten years.

On April 20, around one in the morning, the police received a report about a fire in one of the apartments on Promyslova street in Lviv.

The investigative and operational group, forensic specialists and employees of other services of police department No. 1 of Lviv district administration No. 1, as well as rescuers, immediately left for the specified address.

After localizing the fire, the law enforcement officers established that the cause of the fire was arson. The entrance door to the apartment was damaged by fire. No one was injured in the fire.

Soon after, the intruder involved in the arson was discovered by patrol police officers near the scene and handed over to the investigators. He was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

The detainee was identified as a 37-year-old man who temporarily lives in Lviv. He brought paper and cardboard to the door of the apartment, set them on fire and fled.

Investigators of the territorial division of the police, under the procedural guidance of the Galicia District Prosecutor’s Office, informed the detainee of the suspicion of committing a criminal offense provided for in Part 2 of Article 194 (Intentional destruction or damage to property) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment – deprivation of liberty for a term of three to ten years.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and soon the court will choose a preventive measure for the suspect.
