Police detain drunk driver in Lviv on suspicion of committing fatal road accident
A 16-year-old Lviv resident died as a result of a car hitting an electric scooter, and his peer was hospitalised with serious injuries.
The accident occurred on 17 September, around 23.30, on Promyslova Street in Lviv.
Law enforcement officers have preliminarily established that the driver of an Audi A5, a 35-year-old resident of Lviv, hit an electric scooter ridden by two 16-year-old residents of Lviv. One of them died at the scene from the injuries sustained in the accident, and the other was hospitalised.
It was established that the driver of the car was driving under the influence of alcohol. He was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, and the court will soon choose a type of detention.
Investigators of the Transport Crimes Investigation Department of the Lviv Police opened criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Article 286-1 (Violation of the rules of road safety or operation of transport by persons driving vehicles while intoxicated) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of five to ten years with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a term of five to ten years.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, law enforcement officers are establishing all the circumstances of the incident.
