The road accident occurred today, 19 February, at around 7.30 a.m. on Volodymyr the Great Street in the district centre.
As law enforcement officers have preliminarily established, the driver of a Volkswagen Golf, a 20-year-old resident of one of the district’s villages, hit a female pedestrian, a 78-year-old local resident. As a result of the accident, the woman sustained injuries and died at the scene.
Investigators opened criminal proceedings over the incident under Part 2 of Article 286 (Violation of the rules of road safety or operation of transport by persons driving vehicles) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of three to eight years with or without deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
