Every year on April 28, on World Occupational Safety Day, Ukraine celebrates Occupational Safety Day. In 2023, the World Day for Safety and Health at Work is dedicated to a safe and healthy working environment as a fundamental principle and right at work.
Work under martial law is associated with a large number of new, including deadly, factors that lead to the deterioration of working conditions in all sectors of the economy. Ukraine is suffering great losses in this war and these losses are increasing due to the death of workers at workplaces. According to the Western Interregional Administration of the State Labor Service, during the armed aggression of the Russian Federation, 3,065 workers were injured, including 520 with fatal consequences. Directly as a result of military aggression, in connection with rocket fire and the action of explosive objects during the performance of labor duties at the factory, 711 workers were injured, of which 252 were fatal.
The Western Interregional Department of the State Labor Service of Ukraine, in accordance with the Decree of the President of Ukraine dated 18.08.2006 No. 685/2006 “On the Day of Labor Protection”, appeals to local self-government bodies with the aim of organizing joint work on informing employers and employees about the requirements of legislation on labor protection in the conditions of martial law and training employees to act in emergency situations aimed at preserving life and health during the performance of their professional duties.
The Ministry of Labor uses all possible means to disseminate information on the organization of safe working conditions. Answers to the most frequently asked questions are posted on the official website of the service, on the information portal pratsia.in.ua and on pages in social networks, the online consultation service “interactive inspector” has been uploaded, informational messages are regularly posted in the mass media, inspectors visit employers and provide individual consultations, communicate directly with people, etc.
