This week Ukraine celebrates National Flag Day (23 August) and Independence Day (24 August). Lviv residents and guests of the city are invited to attend themed events in various locations around the city.
A key event on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of Ukraine’s independence will be a public lecture by Yaroslav Kendzor, a public figure and MP of six convocations who captured unique footage of Ukraine’s formation on his camera. The event will be moderated by actor and founder of the video blog Squad of Moviegoers Vitaliy Gordienko. The event will feature unique archival footage from the meeting of the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR on 24 August 1991, which was filmed by Yaroslav Kendzor himself. To attend the event, which will start on Saturday at 17:00 in the Town Hall courtyard, you need to fill out a short registration form.
Also on this day, at 15:00, the orchestra of the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Army Academy will perform on Rynok Square.
On the evening of 24 August, from 20:45 to 22:00, a street performance by the Khvylya artistic association will also take place on Rynok Square, combining poetry, music and lanterns made of vines and paper.
In addition, the Lviv community will host a number of lectures, flash mobs and concerts dedicated to the main national holidays of Ukraine. A detailed list of all the events, their times and locations can be found below.
