On March 5, the administrative commission at the executive committee of the city of Lviv reviewed eight cases of violations of the legislation on the protection of historical heritage. The owners of apartments in landmark buildings unilaterally replaced wooden windows and doors with plastic ones, for which they received fines of 1,700 UAH each. Violations were recorded on Heroiv Maidanu, Kotliarska, Krakivska, Nalyvaika, Virmenska, Knyazya Romana, Krypyakevycha streets, and Halytska square.
In 2025, the level of fine payment reached 95%, but the Lviv City Council’s office for the protection of cultural heritage emphasizes the importance of avoiding such violations. Fines are only part of the mechanisms for controlling compliance with the legislation. The city also offers co-financing programs for restoration works to preserve the architectural face of Lviv.
The Lviv authorities conduct training for building managers and residents on monument preservation, where they share practical restoration recommendations for building elements.
