The head of the National Association of Oncologists of Ukraine visited the Lviv Oncology Center

During the meeting with the team, a number of topical issues were discussed, in particular, regarding a capable oncology network, provision of anticancer drugs in wartime conditions, and expected changes in the self-governance of medical professions.

Valery Zub, head of the National Association of Oncologists of Ukraine, was on a working visit to Lviv region. As part of the visit, he visited the Lviv Regional Oncology Treatment and Diagnostic Center.

During the meeting with the team, a number of topical issues were discussed, in particular, regarding a capable oncology network, provision of anticancer drugs in wartime conditions, and expected changes in the self-governance of medical professions.

Valery Zub emphasized the possibilities of providing oncological care to patients of the region at the Center, namely, financing of surgical packages, criteria for evaluating the quality of medical services, including family doctors, and approval of national cancer treatment protocols.

“Oncology is a rather specific area of medicine that requires an equally specific approach. And taking into account the current realities, it is worth paying attention not only to treatment, but also to preventive cancer diagnosis, namely to increase the population’s awareness of the risks of cancer. The Lviv Oncology Center impressed with the amount of work done, restored departments, and new equipment. We exchanged opinions and proposals, I see many positive points that must be continued to be implemented. I agree that stimulation is the best motivator. I mean family doctors, who should encourage patients to undergo preventive diagnostics,” Valery Zub emphasized.

“During the war, all chronic diseases, in particular, oncological diseases, are definitely aggravated. Although the influence of stress on the occurrence of cancer has not been proven, it is a significant factor that can cause its development in the future. Unfortunately, in the future, we can observe an increase in the number of cancer cases, which will be caused by untimely treatment. I am confident that together with the Association we will be able to prevent and fight cancer more successfully,” said Nataliya Litvinska, Acting Director of the Health Care Department of the Lviv Regional Hospital.
