As of today, August 7, there are 26 adults and 8 children with coronavirus in Lviv city hospitals for inpatient treatment. Another 356 patients are being treated on an outpatient basis.
This was reported by the city health department.
The condition of all hospitalized people is mild to moderate, and doctors are providing them with all the necessary treatment. Those who are treated on an outpatient basis are also under the supervision of their family doctors.
The doctors remind that despite the fact that the current number of hospitalizations is more usual for the fall and winter period, it is too early to talk about an outbreak of the coronavirus epidemic in Lviv in the middle of summer. However, we should not lose our vigilance.
“Most often, the main symptoms of COVID-19 are generalized weakness and drowsiness, dry cough, runny nose, sore throat, and fever for more than three days. At the same time, the loss of sense of smell or taste is becoming less common. Older patients are the most severely affected, especially those with concomitant chronic illnesses such as diabetes and respiratory diseases, including asthma,” explains Halyna Dymyd, general practitioner and head of the therapy center at St. Panteleimon Hospital of the First Medical Association in Lviv.
Therapists’ recommendations on how to protect yourself from coronavirus infection:
- If it has been a year or more since your last COVID-19 vaccination, be sure to get revaccinated.
- Maintain good hygiene: wash your hands and use antiseptics.
- Avoid crowds.
Experts urge those who do fall ill to isolate themselves, inform their family doctor and keep in touch with him or her, and follow all his or her recommendations. And in case of deterioration of health: the appearance of heaviness in the chest, shortness of breath, high fever that does not break, you should immediately seek emergency medical care.
