The center started its work in October this year.
Since October, doctors of the regional neonatal screening center have received test forms from 5,695 newborns from 7 regions of Ukraine: Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zakarpattia, Ternopil, Volyn, Khmelnytskyi, Chernivtsi. In total, more than 75,000 tests were performed. Research results are already available for 3,800 children.
Genetic pathologies that can be corrected were diagnosed in two children from the Volyn region.
In another 38 cases, screening for individual pathologies, where abnormalities are detected, is completed on the basis of additional blood sampling.
Neonatal screening is a comprehensive examination of newborns to detect hereditary and congenital diseases. Research is conducted on 21 genetic pathologies, in particular, SMA, cystic fibrosis, phenylketonuria, severe combined immunodeficiency, congenital hypothyroidism, galactosemia, endocrinological diseases, etc. For screening, blood is taken from the heel of the baby at the age of 48-72 hours.
We will remind that the Regional Neonatal Screening Center was opened in October this year on the basis of the Lviv Regional Clinical Perinatal Center.
