Oleksandr Bonis, 22, from Drohobych, was killed while defending Ukraine: tomorrow the Hero’s meeting will be held

In the war against the Russian invader, the Drohobych community lost another soldier – a young Drohobych resident, Oleksandr Bonis, died while defending Ukraine.

Oleksandr was born on 23 March 2002 in Italy. He lived in Drohobych on Boryslavska Street. He studied at school No. 15 and later at vocational school No. 19. After graduation, he went to serve in the local military unit A1108.

He has been in the Donetsk region since October 2021. Since then, and since the enemy’s full-scale invasion, Oleksandr has been on the frontline all the time. He was later transferred to the 68th Ranger Brigade. He was an artillery fire adjustment operator.

While performing a combat mission, on 13 May 2024, the Drohobych resident was wounded and was treated at Mechnikov Hospital in Dnipro. Unfortunately, the soldier could not be saved – the life of the young defender of Ukraine ended on 20 May 2024.

The deceased Hero is survived by his mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and nephews.

The Drohobych City Council, its Executive Committee, Mayor Taras Kuchma and Council Secretary Orest Karakevych express their sincere condolences to the family, relatives, friends and colleagues on the untimely death of our countryman and Hero, Oleksandr Bonis.

The funeral convoy with the body of the fallen soldier is expected to arrive tomorrow, 23 May. The meeting at Heroes’ Crossing will take place at 12:30.

A citywide farewell will be held at 13:00 on Rynok Square. The funeral service will begin at 13:30 in the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. The deceased will be buried on the Walk of Fame.
