Today Lviv will say goodbye to defender Ihor Bil

Today, on 16 November, Lviv will say goodbye to soldier Ihor Bilya, who defended Ukraine from Russian invaders.

The City Hall calls on residents and visitors to join the city’s farewell ceremony and refrain from entertainment and celebrations during this time.

The funeral ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul. Later, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a citywide farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square. The defender will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.

The defender’s biographical information

Ihor Bilyo (06.09.1969-13.11.2024) was a resident of Lviv.

He studied at secondary school No. 42.

He graduated from the former Lviv Communications College. After graduation, in 1987-1989, he served in the military as a communications officer in Belarus, and later in the Khmelnytsky region.

After returning from service, he worked in the field of property protection. He was fond of cars, read a lot, and loved nature and animals. According to his family, he was exceptionally sociable, kind, sensitive and compassionate, a “romantic at heart”.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, following his nephew, he voluntarily defended his homeland from the invaders. He performed combat missions in Donetsk and Kharkiv regions, first as a member of the 7th Carpathian Border Guard Detachment, and more recently – of the 15th Mobile Border Guard Detachment “Steel Border” of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

Ihor Bilya is survived by his father, sister, niece, extended family and many friends.
