Tomorrow, Lviv will say goodbye to Heroes Igor Dashko and Vasyl Hrytskiv

On Wednesday, June 21, Lviv will say goodbye to two Heroes. Ihor Dashko and Vasyl Hrytskiv died defending Ukraine from the Russian invaders. The City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremony and to refrain from entertainment events and celebrations during this time.

Vasyl Hrytskiv’s funeral will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Sts. App. Peter and Paul, at 11:30 a city farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square.

The funeral service of Igor Dashka will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Garrison Church of Sts. App. Peter and Paul, at 2:30 p.m. a city farewell ceremony will be held on Rynok Square.

Heroes will be buried at the Lychakiv cemetery.

Biographical references of Heroes

Ihor Dashko (June 18, 1977-April 9, 2022) was born in Sambir, Lviv region.

Studied at Secondary School No. 1 named after Taras Shevchenko of the city of Sambir. He received his education in the field of “Philology” at the National Academy of the State Border Service of Ukraine named after Bohdan Khmelnytsky. Later, he graduated from the Azov State Technical University in the city of Mariupol, majoring in “Intellectual Property”.

In 1999, he joined the ranks of border guards and devoted his life to the State Border Service of Ukraine. He ensured the protection of the Ukrainian border in Donetsk and Mariupol, in 2011-2022 he served in the Western Regional Department of the State Security Service.

During the last period, he held the position of the deputy head of the department of criminal analysis and information and analytical support of the 1st border detachment of the Eastern Regional Department of the State Border Service of Ukraine. Performed combat tasks in the area of operation of the United Forces.

With the beginning of a full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he immediately left for his third business trip to the East.

Colonel. Died in a battle with superior Russian forces in the city of Mariupol, blowing himself up with a grenade to prevent the invaders from seizing the local radio station. His last words were “Glory to Ukraine!”

For his personal courage and heroism, the President of Ukraine awarded Ihor Dashka the title of Hero of Ukraine with the Golden Star Order (posthumously).

Igor Dashka is survived by his wife, daughter and brother.

 

Vasyl Hrytskiv (October 3, 1967-June 15, 2023) from Lviv.

Immediately after finishing school, he joined the ranks of border guards. After returning, he worked in private security companies.

He was an avid sportsman, fond of skydiving, running, boxing and swimming. He adored animals and flowers, created his own orchard.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russian troops, he went to the front as a volunteer. He defended the territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine in Kharkiv Oblast and Donetsk Oblast in the ranks of the 125th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade of the “West” Regional Administration of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Vasyl Hrytskiv is survived by his wife, two sons, daughters-in-law and grandson, mother, sister and two brothers with their families.
