The leader of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, Stepan Bandera, was born on January 1, 1909 in the village of Ughryniv, in the Ivano-Frankivsk region.
Celebrations were held near the monument to Stepan Bandera in Lviv on the occasion of the 115th anniversary of the birth of the leader of the OUN.
“Exactly 115 years ago, the fighter for the independence of our country, the leader of the OUN, was born. A man of strong will and faith in a free Ukraine, principled and steadfast. the Polish occupiers are still afraid even of his very name. And for us, Stepan Bandera is a symbol of Ukrainian resistance and a signpost. Many of his words turned out to be prophetic. We remember and study the history of our state and, led by our Armed Forces, create a new one. Only victory!” – stressed the head of Lviv OVA Maksym Kozytskyi.
Ivan Sobko, deputy head of the Lviv OVA, took part in the events. Representatives of the deputy corps, regional, district and local authorities, UPA veterans, residents and guests of the Lviv region also joined the commemoration.
The participants of the event laid flowers at the foot of the monument to Stepan Bandera, joined in a joint prayer for Ukraine, and performed Ukrainian patriotic songs.

The leader of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, Stepan Bandera, was born on January 1, 1909 in the village of Ughryniv, in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. He received his education in Lviv, because he studied at the local gymnasium to become an agronomist.
Stepan Andriyovych Bandera is one of the leading ideologues and theoreticians of the Ukrainian nationalist movement of the 20th century, the head of the OUN-B board, one of the subdivisions of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists after its split.
Together with Yaroslav Stetsk, he authored and proclaimed the Act of Restoration of the Ukrainian State of June 30, 1941, for which they were sent to a concentration camp. OUN-B, headed by Bandera, became the founder of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army.
Stepan Bandera died at the hands of KGB agent Bohdan Stashynskyi. He shot Bandera in the face with a stream of potassium cyanide solution from a special gun. It happened in October 1959 in Germany.
After the collapse of the USSR, for many Ukrainians, the name of Stepan Bandera became a symbol of the struggle for Ukraine’s independence.
