Today, at 137 Lychakivska Street, an information table dedicated to Witold Śolgin, a prominent Polish architect, writer, and memoirist who was born and raised in Lviv, was unveiled. He was madly in love with his hometown and immortalized Lviv in numerous studies and memoirs. The opening ceremony was attended by the Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Lviv Eliza Dzwonkiewicz, Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi, Head of the Lychakiv District Administration Yuriy Lukashevskyi, clergy and residents of the city.
“I want to thank everyone who came up with the idea of honoring Witold Szolgin. He lived in Lviv and was a man of special talent. He loved Lviv in all its manifestations – in music, radio, architecture, and cooking. He was a man who was filled with great love for Lviv.

And these are people of different nationalities, but people who were filled with great love,” emphasized Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi.
Biography of Vitald Sholhin
– Born on March 11, 1923, in Lviv.
– He received his first education at St. Anthony’s Men’s State School and completed his so-called “minor bachelor’s degree” at the 6th Stashytsia Gymnasium.
– During the German occupation, he sold newspapers and worked as a courier for the tax office. He participated in the editing and distribution of the underground press.
– He studied with Polish professors at the Faculty of Architecture of Lviv Polytechnic.
– In May 1946, he and his parents were evicted from Lviv. Then he continued his studies at the Krakow University of Technology, where he received a master’s degree in architectural engineering.
– He worked in his specialty for over 40 years. He rose to the position of associate professor at the Institute of Environmental Design in Warsaw.
– He is the author of the encyclopedia Architecture and Construction, the books Aesthetics of the City, Historiography of Urbanism and Architecture of Old Lviv, Wonders of Architecture, and The Oldest Views of Lviv.
– Witold Szolhynia is primarily known as the author of poems about Lviv and Lvivians, written in both the balakic and literary Polish languages. His works, collected in the volumes: “Krajubrazy syrdeczny, Kwiaty lwowskie, and (in an anthology by many authors, including Witold Szolgina) Semper fidelis, restore the image of old Lviv with its monuments and inhabitants.
– He was buried in the Powiat Cemetery in Warsaw.
