The Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office defended in the appellate court the verdict against three members of an organized group who attempted to kill a Lviv entrepreneur and blew up his bodyguards. By the decision of the district court, the leader of the group was sentenced to life imprisonment, and the executors to 15 years each with confiscation of property. The defense appealed for the annulment of the sentence, but the prosecutors held their ground.
In 2016, one of the convicts planned the attack and entrusted its execution to others for a reward of 2 million 600 thousand UAH. The crime involved blowing up the victim’s car near the village of Stare Selo. The first attempt failed due to the businessman’s delay. The second attempt resulted in an explosion of the bodyguards’ car and a shootout, leading to the death of three individuals and injuring a surviving one.
The Ternopil Court of Appeal left unchanged the decision of the previous court, dismissing the defense’s appeal.
