Lviv region: police serve offenders suspicion notice of stealing diesel fuel
Two residents of the Brody district, aged 38 and 54, who stole fuel, face imprisonment for up to eight years for their crime.
Criminal police operatives, together with investigators and officers of other units of the Zolochiv District Police Department No. 1, established that the offenders had drawn up a plan to steal diesel fuel from an oil depot located in Zolochiv district.
To transport the stolen fuel, they prepared a van with plastic canisters and a device for pumping diesel out of the tank. On 24 August, at around 10:00 a.m., the offenders drove the van to the fence of the tank farm and, following the plan, pumped 430 litres of diesel fuel from the tank into the canisters.
However, the men did not manage to get far with the stolen goods, as they were spotted by the tank farm’s employees, who reported the incident to the police.
Law enforcement officers detained the criminals in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Investigators of the territorial police unit, under the procedural supervision of the Zolochiv District Prosecutor’s Office, served them a notice of suspicion of committing a crime under Part 4 of Article 185 (Theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article provides for imprisonment for a term of five to eight years.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the court will soon choose a measure of restraint against the suspects.
