Law enforcement officers have blocked another channel of illegal transportation of men of draft age across the state border of Ukraine.
The perpetrator, a 32-year-old resident of the city of Drohobych, who organized an illegal scheme to evade mobilization for men of conscription age, was exposed by investigators of the Yavoriv District Police Department in cooperation with operatives of the Yavoriv District Department of the Security Service of Ukraine in Lviv Region under the procedural guidance of the Yavoriv District Prosecutor’s Office.
As the law enforcement officers established, the man provided the evaders with documents that allowed them to go abroad under the guise of members of a volunteer organization. He estimated his services at $6,800 for one package of documents.
The police arrested the attacker while he was receiving the “reward”.
Investigators of the territorial division of the police informed the detainee about the suspicion of committing an offense provided for in Part 3 of Article 332 (Illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment – deprivation of liberty for a period of seven to nine years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to three years with confiscation of property.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Law enforcement officers are identifying other persons involved in the illegal scheme.
The suspect was remanded in custody with bail.
