Lviv region to try members of criminal group accused of supplying drugs to penal colony

The accused, who are in custody, face imprisonment for a term of nine to twelve years with confiscation of property.

Law enforcement officers established that a 28-year-old resident of Boryslav, who is currently serving a sentence in a penal colony in Lviv region, organised a criminal group to purchase drugs, supply them to a penal institution and sell them to convicts.

The group, in addition to the organiser, included two men who were “at large”. The criminals had clearly defined roles and responsibilities, “worked” in a coordinated manner, in compliance with the rules of secrecy – they accepted orders, supplied and sold methadone, buprenorphine and cannabis to convicts.

The police documented the facts of the sale and distribution of drugs, and during the authorised searches, they found and seized drugs, means for packaging drugs, communication equipment, draft records, as well as other material evidence of their involvement in illegal activities. All seized items were sent for expert examination to the Lviv Scientific Research Forensic Centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings initiated under Part 3 Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Illegal production, manufacture, acquisition, storage, transportation, transfer or sale of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or their analogues) has been completed. The indictment was sent to the court for consideration.

The criminals were exposed by criminal police operatives and investigators of the Drohobych District Police Department together with operatives of the correctional facility, under the procedural supervision of the Drohobych District Prosecutor’s Office and the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
