Lviv police expose family members involved in drug trafficking
A 68-year-old mother and her two children – a 39-year-old son and a 46-year-old daughter – were exposed by criminal police operatives, investigators and forensic specialists of the Lviv District Police Department No. 2, as well as cynologists of the Lviv Police, under the procedural supervision of the Frankivsk District Prosecutor’s Office. Special forces of the Lviv regional police were involved in their detention.
According to law enforcement officers, the offenders were distributing drug-containing Subutex pills by mail and selling them from hand to hand.
The police documented 14 facts of illegal sale of prohibited substances by family members. During the authorized searches of the offenders’ residences, the SBU found and seized drug-containing pills, a substance similar to cannabis, money obtained from illegal activities and other material evidence. All seized items were sent for expert examination.
The mother and son were detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
The daughter was served a notice of suspicion of committing criminal offenses under Part 2 of Article 307 (Illegal production, manufacture, acquisition, storage, transportation, shipment or sale of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or their analogues) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine by investigators of the territorial police unit.
The maximum penalty provided by the sanction of the article is imprisonment for up to ten years with confiscation of property.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the court will soon choose a measure of restraint.
