Fire in Pidbirci: Lviv City Council Emphasizes Ban on Burning Dry Vegetation

In the village of Pidbirci, a massive fire of dry grass occurred, covering an area of 5000 sq.m and threatening to spread to the forest. Employees of the State Emergency Service are working intensively to extinguish the fire. The Lviv City Council strongly appeals to citizens not to burn dry vegetation, as it harms the environment and is illegal. There are fines for such actions.

Rescuers are facing additional pressure due to the war, as instead of assisting the affected, they are forced to respond to such incidents. Warm and dry weather contributes to the occurrence of fires. The best solution for disposing of leaves and grass is composting, which turns waste into organic fertilizer.

Since 2020, there has been a composting station in Lviv on Plastova St. 13, where organic matter becomes a nutrient for various sectors of the economy. This significantly reduces waste in landfills and their negative impact on nature.

  • Fines for burning range from 3,060 to 6,120 UAH for citizens and from 15,300 to 21,420 UAH for officials.
  • In nature reserves, fines range from 6,120 to 12,240 UAH.

Citizens are urged to report incidents of dry vegetation burning by calling ‘101’ and to report offenders to the police by calling ‘102’.
