The law enforcement officers remind once again that in the conditions of martial law, the maximum punishments are provided for committing theft, robbery, robbery, extortion, as well as for misappropriation, waste of property or possession of it by abuse of official position.
As the employees of the Lviv District Police Department No. 1 established, on June 13, at around 10:45 a.m., a 23-year-old Lviv woman exchanged currency ($300) in an office located in one of the shopping centers on Mickiewicz Square. The woman did not know that she was being watched by a 43-year-old previously convicted resident of Crimea, who temporarily lives in the Lviv Region. He chose a convenient moment and stole the money she had just exchanged from the victim’s purse.
However, his illegal actions were noticed by security guards of the shopping center. They reported it to the 102 hotline and detained the man until the police arrived.
The investigative and operative group of the Lviv District Police Department No. 1 worked at the scene of the incident. Law enforcement officers identified the perpetrator and detained him in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Physical evidence was taken from him.
Investigators of the territorial division of the police informed the detainee about the suspicion of committing a criminal offense provided for in Part 4 of Article 185 (Theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, as well as the selection of a preventive measure for him. The maximum punishment provided by the sanction of the article is up to eight years of imprisonment.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and soon the court will choose a preventive measure for the suspect.
