Police establish circumstances of grenade explosion in Lviv region
As a result of the incident, a 37-year-old resident of a village in Lviv district sustained fatal injuries, no other victims were reported.
The police received a report of an explosion in a garage on the territory of a private household in a village in Lviv district at around midnight on 26 August.
The following were working at the scene: The investigative team of the Police Department No. 3 of the Lviv District Police Department No. 2, forensic experts, explosives experts and officers of other police services in Lviv region.
The deceased was a 37-year-old local resident who had numerous shrapnel wounds on his body, which caused his death. It has also been preliminarily established that the man’s injuries were caused by a grenade explosion.
Investigators of the territorial police unit opened criminal proceedings over the incident under Part 1 of Article 115 (Murder) with the note “accident” of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and Part 1 of Article 263 (Illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
An investigation is underway and examinations have been ordered. Police are establishing the circumstances of the incident, the type and origin of the ammunition.
