The Lviv Higher Professional Art School created an inclusive space for students with special educational needs. The space, which consists of a rehabilitation hall, special rooms and a modern library, has become one of the favorites among all who study at this school.
The inclusive space of the art school is:
– rehabilitation hall for physical relief after classes, removal of physical and emotional stress, recovery and rest;
– a resource room as a place for self-improvement, interesting leisure time, meaningful rest with friends;
– a training room, which is designed to become a place of psycho-emotional and moral-ethical relief, conversations and advice, trainings and consultations;
– SMART library – a place for learning, development, self-discovery, thematic literary meetings and artistic events.
“In the new library of our school, we conduct design classes in particular. There are powerful modern computers here, so students are able to pass 90% of the curriculum through practical classes: I show them something, and they try to reproduce it. And the most interesting thing is that the design project of this library was created by the designer students themselves, and the painter students painted the walls. It really inspires and motivates everyone who studies at our school,” said Olena Demus, a design teacher at the art school.
They created an inclusive space for a reason: the school trains students with special educational needs in the professions of “Florist”, “Painter, restorer” and “Designer”. This year, 36 such students study at the school, 17 of them are deaf.
The implementation of the inclusive space project was carried out with the financial support of the Ebergard Shyok Foundation, the Shyok Family Foundation, the Construction Industry Support Fund, the Lviv City Council, and the Department of Education and Science of the LOD.
“We have been fruitfully cooperating with the Eberghard Schök Foundation since 2018. Thanks to this, we have a powerful material and technical base, with the help of which we teach children. This year, we fulfilled our dream – we opened an inclusive space for students with special educational needs (and not only),” said Nadiya Obnyavka, director of the school.
