A rare 12-millimeter tumor grew and deformed the face of an 11-year-old girl. The operation was performed at the Saint Nicholas Hospital of the First Medical Association of Lviv.
The girl Alevtyna was born with a cyst in her right eye. However, the girl’s parents did not know about it. Because the formation was imperceptible for a long time and did not cause any trouble. The cyst began to grow only a few years ago. At first, the eye began to itch unusually. And later, the girl noticed hairs growing from the inside.
Doctors discovered a dermoid cyst with hair follicles in the child’s right eye. This formation is congenital and is characterized by tissue growth in the form of a closed bag near the surface of the skin. Such a pathology is quite rare.
A dermoid cyst was located behind the lower eyelid in Alytyna, spread to the eyeball and deformed the eye slit. In addition, the hairs growing from the cyst became thicker and thicker. In order to pluck them out of the eye, the girl visited specialists once every few weeks. In the end, when living with the cyst became too uncomfortable, Alevtyna and her parents decided to undergo an operation.
Surgical intervention to remove the tumor was performed by specialists of the Saint Nicholas Children’s Hospital of the First Medical Association of Lviv. At the time of the operation, the cyst was 12×6 mm in size. In order not to leave any defects on the girl’s eye, doctors operated with the help of microsurgical instruments. Despite the fact that the cyst managed to grow deep in the eyelid, the intervention was successful.
The wound on the eye healed quickly. Alevtyna is feeling well and nothing bothers her now. The girl will come to the doctors only for examinations.
