Babies were born at 31 weeks of pregnancy.
The Children’s Medicine Center of the “Okhmatdyt” hospital successfully delivered prematurely born twins. One of the girls had necrotizing enterocolitis with perforation (inflammation and necrosis of the intestine), abdominal abscess (pus-filled cavity in the soft tissues of the body), and peritonitis (inflammation of the peritoneum).
A family from Zhovkva. Twin girls, Ustyna and Tereza, were born in one of Lviv’s maternity hospitals during the 31st week of their mother’s pregnancy. Tereza’s birth weight was 950 grams, and Ustiny’s was 1180 grams.
Both girls had anemia of prematurity. However, Tereza’s condition was much more complicated. With abdominal abscess, bacterial sepsis (pathological process of organ dysfunction), necrotic enterocolitis with perforation and congenital pneumonia (acute infectious-inflammatory disease of the lungs).
The team of doctors of “Okhmatdyt” immediately operated on the girl. Thanks to the entire spectrum of professional and quick actions of specialists, the babies were successfully delivered. Terezi performed a huge list of treatment measures and procedures. For some time, the baby also received iron preparations and antibiotic therapy.
“It was a very difficult case, the child was on the verge of life and death,” said Halyna Zaremba, head of the Department of Anesthesiology and Neonatal Intensive Care at the Center for Children’s Medicine, Okhmatdyt Hospital.
Tereza’s weight at discharge was 2100 grams, and Ustiny’s weight was 3280 grams.
From time to time, parents with babies come to the Children’s Medicine Center for a full examination. The twins are developing well, growing and gaining weight.
