In three months, 300 patients with impaired cerebral circulation were operated on at St. Luke’s Hospital

Over the course of three months, 300 endovascular interventions were performed in the new interventional radiology department of St. Luke’s Hospital of the First Medical Association of Lviv – ultra-complicated high-tech operations through a micropuncture in a blood vessel. This means that 300 patients got a chance to return to a full life.

Among the performed interventions are 23 thromboextractions, i.e. removal of blood clots from cerebral vessels in case of ischemic stroke. And this is the most modern method of treating such patients in the world today.

“The method consists in puncturing a section of the patient’s artery, followed by bringing the micro-equipment through the vessel to the right place. Therefore, specialists of the department also perform such endovascular interventions for emergency patients with brain aneurysms, acute myocardial infarction, damage to the vessels of the abdominal cavity and lower extremities,” the doctors explain.

Thanks to the new angiograph, doctors are able to perform quick and effective diagnosis and treatment. After all, the most important thing is to observe the so-called “therapeutic window” – the time when it is possible to provide qualified assistance and prevent neurological consequences.

In the department of interventional radiology, diagnostic angiographic examinations and operations are carried out on the vessels of the heart, brain, pelvic organs, aorta and its branches, limbs, trunk vessels.
