Tomorrow, on 3 February, Lviv will say goodbye to the soldiers Volodymyr Hanushchak and Yuriy Shlyapnikov, who defended Ukraine from Russian occupiers.
In the morning, at 09:00, a prayer and farewell service will be held for Volodymyr Hanushchak at the Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit of the UGCC (9 Trillivskoho Street).
The funeral service for Volodymyr Hanushchak and Yuriy Shlyapnikov will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of the Apostles Peter and Paul. Peter and Paul. Afterwards, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a citywide farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square.
The defenders will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.
Biographical information about the defenders
Volodymyr Hanushchak (25.06.1978-26.01.2025). A resident of Lviv.
He studied at the secondary school No. 98 in Lviv. He graduated from Lviv Polytechnic National University with a degree in Radio Electronic Devices, Systems and Complexes and received a qualification as an engineer in the field of electronics and telecommunications. He graduated from the military department at the university.
He worked as a leading engineer for the implementation and operation of a radio network at Lifecell Limited Liability Company. In his spare time, he was fond of literature, was interested in the latest technologies and studied foreign languages. He often travelled with his family.
Captain. After the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, he joined the 128th separate mountain assault brigade of the Transcarpathian Operational Command “West” of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to defend the state from the enemy. In June 2024, he was transferred to the 419th separate battalion of unmanned systems. He was defending the state on the eastern frontline.
Volodymyr Hanushchak is survived by his parents, wife and two sons.
Yurii Shliapnikov (05.05.1988-04.04.2024). A resident of Lviv.
He studied at the secondary school №91 in Lviv. Lviv. He graduated from the Lviv College of Municipal Economy (today – Separate Structural Subdivision “Technical and Economic Specialist College of Lviv Polytechnic National University”).
After graduation, he worked at Leo Ceramics Private Enterprise. In his spare time, he was fond of football. According to his family, he was “an exceptionally kind person and had a wide circle of friends”.
After the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he defended Ukraine as part of the 68th Separate Oleksa Dovbush Ranger Brigade of the Operational Command “West” of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He defended the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state in the Kharkiv and Donetsk regions.
Yuriy Shlyapnikov is survived by his father and sister and their family.
