They competed in dexterity and erudition and honored Yevhen Konovalts: fifty young people traveled through Zashkov (VIDEO)

This year, the youth of Lviv region honored the memory of Yevhen Konovalts and 132 years since his birthday in a new format – the quest “Hero’s Paths”.

From the family home of the Ukrainian military and political figure, fifty young people traveled through Zashkov, discovering little-known facts from the colonel’s life, visited these places and walked along the paths where Yevhen took his first steps as a child.

The quest was aimed at honoring the name of Yevhen Konovalts as a symbol of the indomitable spirit and rank of the Ukrainian idea. It was also held in order to form a patriotic position, develop the principles of civil society, Ukrainian identity, improve the body and spirit, and encourage young people to a healthy lifestyle.

“Every year on these days, the All-Ukrainian youth festival “Zashkiv” took place in Zashkiv, which in different years gathered from 3 to 10 thousand visitors from all over Ukraine. However, for the second year now, we are unable to organize it due to security aspects related to a full-scale invasion. The quest has become a kind of alternative for young people who cannot imagine their summer without Zashkov,” says the head of the youth and sports department of Lviv OVA Roman Khimyak.

In general, the participants were divided into 2 teams. There were 5 locations in the quest program. They included a conversation about Yevhen Konovalts near the museum in the village. Zashkiv, where teams received quest cards. Next, the youth went to the grave of Konovalts’ parents and the school where he studied. During the trip, the participants learned little-known facts about the historical places of Zashkov, in particular, about the Austrian mill and the former torture chamber. The main events in the quest took place on Mount Berekavitsa. Here, young people learned to use a range finder (determining coordinates and plotting them on a map), mastered Morse code (encrypt and decipher a word), and competed in storming a dugout (using laser tag equipment).

“The quest became a great opportunity for the youth of Lviv region to show intelligence and logical thinking, to get a lot of positive emotions and to work in a team. Undoubtedly, such events should be held in order to honor the figures of outstanding Ukrainians in a special way. We are looking forward to new announcements from the youth and sports department of Lviv OVA”, – shares the participant of the quest, the head of the Taras Shevchenko Taras Shevchenko Taras Shevchenko secondary school of secondary education, Hrystyna Haschuk.
