Investigation at Okhmatdyt: Free Medical Services Under Threat
An internal investigation will be conducted at the Okhmatdyt Clinical Center for Children’s Medicine. State-guaranteed medical services should be free of charge for the patient.
Unacceptable Demands on Patients
Medical institutions contracted by the National Health Service of Ukraine under the medical guarantees program must provide patients with the necessary medications and medical services free of charge during treatment. Demands on patients or parents of children treated at medical institutions to purchase drugs themselves or pay for medical services that should be provided free of charge are unacceptable and illegal.
Therefore, the situation where mothers are required to buy medical drugs for children undergoing treatment at the Okhmatdyt unit of the municipal non-commercial enterprise of the Lviv Regional Council “Clinical Center for Children’s Medicine,” described by journalists from one of the Lviv publications, requires immediate action.
Response to the Situation
An internal investigation will be conducted within three working days at the medical institution, and those responsible for the described actions will bear the liability stipulated by current legislation. The relevant letter was sent to the management of the medical institution by the Management of Communal Property of the Lviv Regional Council.
