In a modular town in Lviv, residents will have their own beds

Residents of the modular town in Sikhiv planted young trees and flower beds on the territory of the town at the beginning of spring.

And today they, together with the wife of the mayor of Lviv, Kateryna Kit-Sadova, a team of gardeners, specialists of the city’s architecture and urban planning department, and members of the NGO “Plato” arranged 13 blocks of raised beds. This type of gardening is actively used in European cities and towns.

“The residents of the town took the initiative themselves. They wanted to plant vegetables: cucumbers, tomatoes, spices. Even at the beginning of spring, they actively participated in the development of the territory – they planted trees (for example, cherry blossoms) and flowers. And now we are arranging the beds. Residents themselves will take care of them, water them, take care of them,” said Volodymyr Holovaty, director of the Social Support Center of the LMR.

So that the willing residents of the modular town could have “their” little garden, the raised blocks were placed along the modular houses in such a way that there were necessarily several of them around each one.

“At the initiative of the residents, we developed a proposal for urban gardens for this town, which are very common in European towns. We developed them in the format of 13 blocks of raised beds. People will be able to plant vegetables, herbs and spices here, or whatever else they like. They will also water these beds. It will be such a thing that will bring both benefit and pleasure,” says Olena Tribusyan, developer of the concept of the improvement of the territory of the town, specialist in the Department of Architecture and Urbanism of the LMR.

We remind you that more than 750 Ukrainians live in the largest modular town in Lviv, who found refuge in our city, fleeing the war. These are residents of three towns from Stryi Park, St. Puluya and “Mariapolis”, the houses of which were preserved. In total, about 150,000 forcibly displaced persons live in Lviv.
