Fire in Pidbirci: threat to the forest and human health
In Pidbirci, about 50 hectares of land burned. The fire was extinguished when it reached the edge of the forest. Communities are conducting raids.
“A few weeks before this, in Pidbirci, one person was fined for setting grass on fire. A few more were fined during a raid in Lysynychi,” said Andriy Shenghofer, head of the Lviv community office in Lysynychi. However, despite this, people continue to burn dry vegetation.
Just today, about 50 hectares of land caught fire in Pidbirci. People inhaled acrid smoke, which is dangerous to human health. Fortunately, the fire was extinguished before it could spread to the forest.
Increase in dry vegetation fires and their consequences
Unfortunately, with the arrival of spring, the scale of dry vegetation fires only increases. Rescuers spend valuable resources to extinguish such fires. Sunny days become particularly dangerous for the environment and the entire community.
The Lviv City Council reminds: the safest and most beneficial way for the environment is to compost dry leaves and grass so that they decompose and become fertilizer. Since 2020, there has been a composting station operating at Plastova Street, 13 in Lviv, where organic waste from the entire city is collected.
- For unauthorized burning of dry grass, fallen leaves, and other plant residues, a fine of 3,060 to 6,120 UAH is provided.
- For officials – from 15,300 to 21,420 UAH.
- For similar actions on the territory of reserves, offenders face a fine ranging from 6,120 to 12,240 UAH.
