Quality Medical Care for Families, Mothers, and Infants: Perinatal Center’s 2024 Annual Report

Over the year, the Lviv Regional Perinatal Center has successfully implemented new structural subdivisions, directions, and initiatives that significantly expanded the opportunities for patients to receive modern diagnostics, treatment, and comfortable services.

This was discussed during the medical council, which summarized the work of the Center for 2024:

  • From March, work began on the new package of the Medical Guarantees Program ‘Treatment of infertility using assisted reproductive technologies.’ In less than a year, over 250 couples received treatment under the state program.
  • The opening of a new shelter, covering an area of over 700 m². In case of threat, each division here effectively continues its work.
  • The next-generation sequencing (NGS) laboratory began operating for the first time among municipal medical institutions in Ukraine. Here, exome analysis is conducted—a complex test that allows for the detection of 5,000 genetic pathologies. Previously, such research was only performed abroad.
  • Major renovation of the newborn intensive care unit with neonatal surgery funded by the regional budget. This year, 13 surgeries were performed on children with surgical pathology. The smallest patient weighed only 620 grams.
  • New family-type delivery rooms, where a woman can go through the entire labor cycle accompanied by her partner from admission to discharge.
  • The ‘eBaby’ service, which provides the possibility of obtaining registration documents for newborns right in the maternity unit.
  • Installation of navigation throughout the territory and inside the institution, to help patients easily find the necessary department.
  • Launch of a multichannel call center: 0800 505 435.
  • Update of the discharge room to ensure that the meeting of the woman and child from the maternity happens in a cozy atmosphere.

“At the same time, the already existing divisions demonstrated high efficiency, ensuring a consistently high level of medical care. In 2024, there were 4,792 births and 4,913 infants were born.

Thanks to the coordinated teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement, we were able to achieve high results in providing quality medical care to families, mothers, and infants. I thank everyone who supported and helped to implement ideas during this time,” said the director of the Center, Maria Malachynska.
