In Lviv, a Mother Becomes Kidney Donor for Her Son: Successful Transplant

At the Transplant Center of the First Medical Association of Lviv, another family kidney transplant was performed. A 59-year-old mother became a donor for her 32-year-old son. This is the 154th family kidney transplant at this center. Over the past four years, doctors have performed 350 such operations, most of which were from deceased donors.

Lviv medics continue to lead in Ukraine in the number of transplants, performing more interventions every year. As of today, there are 391 patients with kidney failure on the waiting list who need such operations for a full life.

Doctors emphasize the importance of deceased donation and express gratitude to the families who sacrificed the organs of their loved ones to save other lives. In Lviv, for the first time in Ukraine, a pancreas and kidney complex transplant, as well as a heart-lung complex and a split liver transplant, were performed.
