Successful Reconstruction of the Radial Nerve in Lviv Saves Patient’s Hand Mobility

A resident of Ivano-Frankivsk, 23-year-old Vladyslav Patra, was seriously injured during an arm wrestling match with a friend, leading to a severe fracture of the hand. Despite initial treatment and the installation of a metal plate, the boy’s hand remained paralyzed.

Medical professionals from the Saint Panteleimon Hospital in Lviv conducted a thorough examination and discovered damage to the radial nerve. The operation involved releasing the nerve from the compression of the plate and excising the damaged areas. The procedure did not guarantee complete success due to the individual peculiarities of the patient’s body.

On the second day after the surgery, Vladyslav felt a painful shooting sensation in his wrist – this indicated the beginning of nerve recovery. Thanks to the professionalism of the Lviv doctors, in two months time the individual was able to move his hand just as well as before the injury.

Now, Vladyslav is cautious about engaging in sports activities that could be dangerous to health.
