Since the beginning of 2024, surgeons at the Transplantation Center of the First Lviv Medical Association have transplanted 81 organs from related and posthumous donors, giving patients a chance to live a full life.
“Our transplant team is doing everything possible to help everyone get a second chance at life. Over the six months of this year, our specialists have transplanted 60 kidneys, 8 livers and 13 hearts. Our goal is to help everyone who needs a life-saving donor organ. And we sincerely sympathize with and, at the same time, are immensely grateful to all the families and friends of those donors with confirmed brain death who donate organs to those who need transplants. All donors are our eternal heroes,” the Transplant Center of the First Medical Association of Lviv said.
The doctors also remind that all adults and people of legal capacity can sign a lifetime consent for posthumous donation by contacting the transplant coordinators of the Transplant Center anywhere in Ukraine. To do this, you need to have an identity document with you.
As a reminder, over 380 organ transplants have been performed in Lviv in just three years. These are hearts, livers and kidneys, as well as lungs. And last year, for the first time in Ukraine, a pancreas and kidney complex was transplanted here, as well as the first heart-lung complex transplant in Ukraine and a successful split liver transplant.
