In 2022, surgeons of the First Medical Association of Lviv performed a record number of transplants, saving almost a hundred Ukrainians in Ukraine. Medical teams transplanted 7 hearts, 12 livers and 78 kidneys. Of them, children received three kidneys and one liver.
Lviv transplant specialists transplanted kidneys to patients with severe renal failure. In 90% of cases, it is chronic glomerulonephritis. 43 kidneys were transplanted from a family donor during the year. Posthumously – 35.
Patients with cirrhosis received the liver. Their age is from 30 to 50 years.
Hearts were transplanted to men, seven of them. The oldest of them is 67 years old. The youngest is only 34. Their severe heart failure was caused by congenital dilated cardiomyopathy, or ischemic cardiomyopathy – damage to a large part of the myocardium due to a heart attack.
“Our goal in 2023 is to perform at least twice as many operations and actively develop children’s transplantology – so that every child, every Ukrainian receives an organ here in Ukraine. Huge thanks to all the medical teams for their hard and dedicated work throughout the year! We would like to thank our colleagues from other medical institutions of Ukraine, with whom we cooperate in organ transplantation”, – noted in the First TMO of Lviv.
