Doctors from Toronto, Vancouver and Los Angeles hospitals visited the First Medical Association of Lviv on a one-week mission. This is the first visit of specialists from the Canadian SickKids hospital to Ukraine after a three-year break. He was joined by specialists from other medical facilities in Canada and the USA.
In particular, neonatologists, neurophysiologists, neurologists and neurosurgeons came. During their stay, foreign colleagues held dozens of lectures, consultations and performed a number of neurosurgical interventions on children together with Ukrainian colleagues.
“Our guests held the first large-scale international multidisciplinary conference on the treatment of acute diseases of the central nervous system in newborns and a neurosurgical conference. The main topics of the reports: intraventricular hemorrhages, encephalopathies and convulsions in infants, modern approaches to the treatment of epilepsy and brain tumors in children. Such strong support from colleagues from abroad inspires our doctors to learn, improve their skills and provide even better high-quality care according to modern standards,” the First Medical Association of Lviv notes.
Based on the results of the visit, the doctors agreed on further cooperation. In particular, about regular internships and online discussions of complex cases of treating infants and neurosurgical patients. Doctors also exchanged experience in infection control and central nervous system injuries, care of infants in the intensive care unit, and mental health of mothers.
This visit took place within the framework of the Ukrainian-Canadian pediatric internship program of the Ukraine Pediatric Fellowship Program at the Center for Global Children’s Health at the Hospital for Sick Children.
