Surgeons from the USA operated on a boy whose father died defending Ukraine

Plastic surgeons from the USA operated on 15 children during their medical mission to Lviv. One of those who were helped by doctors was 3-year-old Rostyk, whose father died in the war.

3-year-old Rostyk accidentally stuck his hand into the fire and burned his fingers. It happened in the yard of my own house a year ago. In a few months, dad died at the front. Mother was left alone with two children.

The result of the burn is an immobile little finger on the right hand. The operation did not help. When Rostyk was brought to the American plastic surgeons who came to Lviv on a mission, the child’s finger practically did not extend. Moreover, a scar was already formed on the surface of the palm. The conclusion of the surgeons is urgent plastic surgery of the finger.

During the operation, the doctors dissected the scar, and then changed the tension lines. The result is that the child has already unbent the little finger. Currently, a physical therapist works with him.

In addition to Rostyk, the Americans, together with our surgeons, operated on 14 more children. This is a child with severe post-burn defects, congenital and acquired facial defects.

The mission from the USA is eight surgeons who came to Lviv to support Ukraine during the war. Among them are three Americans of Ukrainian origin: Roman Bukachevskyi, Viktor Cherkasii and Mark Hnatyuk.

“I came because this is my Motherland, and I wanted to do something for Ukrainians, to help in some way. Earlier in America, people did not know what Ukraine was, but now the whole world knows what brave and wonderful people – Ukrainians are,” Viktor Cherkasii emphasized.

Roman Bukachevskyi, Viktor Cherkasii, Bill Clinton’s personal physician James Sun, Drapid Setty, Craig Khobar, John Chermin, Harrison Clanton worked side by side with Ukrainian doctors for five days.

“We sincerely thank the Christian Medical Association of Ukraine, as well as personally Rudolph Mygovych and Steve Orten, for uniting such amazing specialists around the idea of helping Ukrainians,” say Lviv doctors.
