Patients of the Department of Extragenital Diseases and Obstetric Pathology can use portable Sigmafon cardiotocography devices at home. For this purpose, the Lviv Oblast Perinatal Center has 5 such cardiotocographs, which are issued primarily to pregnant women who have clinical indications for such monitoring. This is a high-precision screening device designed for external monitoring of fetal vital parameters and allows for early detection of possible abnormalities or threats to pregnancy, prevention or mitigation of their consequences.
“Almost 800 remote diagnostics using telemedicine were performed for pregnant patients of our Center in 2023. This year, there have been about 200 such examinations. The patient installs a special application on her phone. A cardiotocograph is connected to the phone using wireless technology. The device’s sensors are attached to the pregnant woman’s abdomen, recording and transmitting the data on the fetal heart rate, uterine muscle activity, and the fetus’ response to its contractions. The woman records the fetal movement by pressing a special button on the device. The diagnostic results are saved in the app. The doctor remotely analyzes the diagnostic results through the application on his smartphone or using the web version of the telemedicine platform,” said Maria Malachynska, director of the Center.
“Cardiotocography is absolutely safe for the expectant mother and child. It is also very comfortable for women, as it reduces the need for hospitalization and is free of charge for patients.
