The training hub of the First Lviv Medical Association hosted a one-day simulation workshop on acute stroke treatment.
Throughout the day, experts from Lviv and other Ukrainian cities practiced their theoretical and practical knowledge on the only virtual reality simulator in Ukraine.
“Together with my colleagues, neurologists, anaesthetists, neurosurgeons and radiologists, we discussed the key points of the new standard for treating ischaemic stroke, which was released on 20 June this year. We practiced various techniques of thrombectomy, i.e. removing a blood clot minimally invasively using a modern Mentice simulator,” says Andriy Netliukh, a neurosurgeon at St Panteleimon’s Hospital in Lviv.
Mentice is a high-tech virtual reality simulator for interventional therapy. Currently, it is the only one in Ukraine, and there are about 2,000 of them in the world.
“It is extremely important to hold such events, because in addition to theory, it is important to practice a lot in medicine. Such a simulator gives us the opportunity to learn, improve our skills and develop our Ukrainian medicine to provide even better care to our patients with cerebral stroke,” says Natalia Matolinets, Director of Research at the First Medical Association of Lviv.
The training was organised at the First Medical Association of Lviv, with the support of the Ukrainian Association of Neurosurgeons (UAN) and Medtronic.
